Arbigland Estate - Dumfriesshire

Good sporting birds are offered from mid October through to late January. The ideal bag size for a driven day on Arbigland Estate being 125 / 150 shown over a mixture of drives.

Unlike many shoots focusing primarily on one species it is often possible to shoot a varied and mixed bag at Arbigland:

  • Two of the drives, Thurlstone and The Walled Garden gives guns the opportunity to stand and shoot on the beach - a little different and a lot of fun!
  • The Cistern Wood and Mrs Sweeny's show tall testing birds...
  • Both Pheasant and Partridge are put to wood with reared Mallard over two ponds.
  • Driven days can incorporate some fantastic driven Snipe shooting where the "bangs are plentiful and the returns low" !
  • Being coastal there is prime access to inland Goose shooting for both Pinkfoot and Greylag Geese.
  • Evening Duck flights for Mallard, Teal and Widgeon on fed flight ponds also make for thrilling sport.
  • During the harvest season, the shoot has prime ground for Pigeon shooting; various bags over the last 4 seasons range from 50 – 135.
  • Several Walked Up - Mini Driven days shooting circa 50-70 birds a day along with Rough shooting for a good mixed bag are also available.
  • Salmon and Sea Trout fishing and Foxhunting with the Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Foxhounds can all be arranged in season.
The House on the Shore provides the perfect sporting lunch venue and you can allow us to cater for all your needs while you focus on the sport!
